In steel structure construction, C purlins are the most widely used. Zhongyuan provides C purlin roll forming machines featuring optimized machine structure and roll tooling design. With a mold-change system, the machine can switch between C and U purlin production without replacing the entire machine, meeting requirements for multiple sizes and profile types.

For Z purlins, which require higher load-bearing capacity and are commonly used in continuous lapped structures, Zhongyuan also offers Z purlin roll forming machines. This machine is capable of producing C, Z, and U purlins on a single line, greatly improving equipment utilization and production flexibility.

C/Z/U Purlin Forming Machine

Purlins can be classified into different types based on the shapes:

 C purlins are channel sections with or without flange stiffeners. They offer strong versatility and easy installation, and are widely used for wall systems and light-load roofing applications.
 U purlins are channel sections without lips. They are mainly used as auxiliary supports or framing members, commonly applied at eaves, edges, and door and window frames.
 Z purlins are point-symmetric sections shaped similar to the letter “Z.” They allow continuous lapping installation, provide higher load-bearing capacity, and are suitable for large-span roofs and heavy-load structures.

In practical projects, a single purlin profile often cannot meet all structural requirements. Therefore, purlin roll forming machines capable of producing Z, C, and U purlins (ZCU purlin forming machines) are a highly practical solution, offering greater flexibility and efficiency for steel structure fabrication.

How does Zhongyuan machine switch between Z, C, and U modes?

When users want to make Cee, Zee, or U-shaped purlins of different sizes, they just need to enter the dimensions, and the control system will automatically adjust to these sizes. By simply pressing a button, the rollers will automatically adjust to the required size, eliminating the need for manual adjustment.
For switching between C-shaped and Z-shaped purlins, the flipping device is manually replaced.
The changeover from C-type to Z-type purlins can be completed within 20 minutes.

1. Leveling device

Leveling device
  1. Function
    • Release the stub bar of coils, guiding it to the leveling device, and flatten the coil sheet.
    • When feeding the coil, the bucket presses the stub bar of coils, guiding the coil into the leveling device.
    • The leveling device has feeding rollers and leveling rollers. Feeding rollers can be adjusted to go up and down, which makes it easy to adjust the distance between leveling rollers and their angle of inclination.

2. Punching System

3. Pre-Cutting Device

  • The length and blocks can be set by the buyer through the control panel. When the set length is reached, the machine will cut the panel automatically. The cutting is finished under the power of a hydraulic station, which guarantees the precision of the cutting.

Understanding the Structure and Features of a Purlin Roll Forming Machine

Roll Forming System
The roll forming system consists of a series of rollers that shape the metal strip into the desired UCZ purlin profile. The number of roll forming stations may vary depending on the complexity of the profile.

Material Handling System
This system allows for the smooth feeding of the metal strip into the machine. It typically includes decoilers, straighteners, and guiding systems to ensure proper alignment and tension.

Cutting Mechanism
UCZ Purlin Roll Forming Machines are equipped with a cutting mechanism that cuts the formed purlins to the desired length. Different cutting methods can be employed, such as hydraulic shearing or flying saw cutting.

Control System
The control system of the machine is responsible for managing the overall operation and parameters. It enables operators to set the desired length, speed, and other parameters for efficient production.

How UCZ Purlin Roll Forming Machines Work

 

UCZ Purlin Roll Forming Machines follow a sequential process to produce UCZ purlins. Here’s a step-by-step overview of how these machines work:

  • Material Loading: The metal strip is loaded onto the machine’s decoiler, where it unwinds the coil and feeds it into the roll forming system.
  • Roll Forming: The metal strip passes through a series of rollers that gradually shape it into the desired UCZ purlin profile. Each roller set imparts a specific bend or contour to the metal strip.
  • Cutting: Once the purlin profile is formed, the machine’s cutting mechanism cuts the purlins to the desired length. This ensures uniformity and precision in the final product.
  • Stacking and Output: The cut purlins are then stacked or conveyed to the output area for further processing or packaging. Stacking mechanisms or conveyor systems facilitate the organized collection of the finished purlins.
 

1) Installation:

 

STEP 1. Please put the machine body on the ground, level it first, and make sure every part is on the same level.

 

  • Fix the guiding device.

STEP 2. Release the tubing, wires, and other fittings. Please check if there are any broken spare parts. Please find 12 tubes tied on the punching devices and cutting device. Connect them to the hydraulic station.

STEP 3. Connected the tubes of the cutting device and punching devices with the hydraulic station according to the marks, like below:

STEP 4. Please add No 46. hydraulic oil into the hydraulic station. Make sure the oil is not lower than the yellow line at any time. Make sure it’s full, at least it should not be less than 80%.

STEP 5. There are four tubes inside the PLC. You may find three tubes on the machine body, one of which is tied to the hydraulic station. Please find them and connect them.

STEP 6. Connect the 5th tube on machine body.

STEP 7. Connect hydraulic station motors with PLC in corresponding place--U1, V1, W1.

STEP 8. Connect the machine's main motor electric wires from the main machine to the PLC.

STEP 9. Connect the local electric wires to the PLC.

2) Testing Machine

 
  1. Open the electrical power
  2. Before the operation, you must check the oil tank. The hydraulic oil level must be up to half of the level indicator. If not, add 46# oil into it.
  3. Test the hydraulic station motor. Turn the button OFF/ON to the ON position, the button of Power will turn on, press the button Oil pump start. Check if the hydraulic station motor is running the way as the red mark shows.

If the running way turns reverse, please check the connection situation of the local wire. To check this, please turn off local electrical power and the air switch.
Then exchange the place of the Local Electric Wires, until the hydraulic station motor runs the way as the red mark shows.

3)Test running

We suggest you try one piece of steel sheet before mass production.
  1. Feed sheets in to machine.
  2. Turn on local power.
  3. Turn the PLC button OFF/ON to the ON position, the button of Power will turn on, and press the button “Oil Pump Start”. Turn “Manual/Auto” to “Manual”.
  4. Then press the button “Main Motor forward” on the PLC.
  5. Press “Manual Cutting” to cut the panel.
  6. Press the button “Main Motor Forward” until the end.

After finishing the test, you may start to switch the working station from manual to automatic. The machine will produce the products according to the data you set up. For sheet length and quantity settings, please refer to the electrical control system.
